I loved this movie, but it always bothered me that they never showed the impact the flames above had on the world below - like when the bodies fell, and when that water tank blew up, they didn't show the water go into the lobby or anything.
butcher, thanks for reading and for all the comments you've made here lately. I hope you've enjoyed your visit to The Underworld!
I recall that Mad Magazine (or was it Cracked) had a parody comic strip of The Towering Inferno and at the end of it, when the water tanks blew, everyone went screaming from the bottom of the building and there was going to be a sequel to the story called "FLOOD!" (Of course, Irwin Allen soon did make a TV movie called Flood!, but it was unrelated to this.)
Thank you for the mini-tribute to Jennifer Jones. She was magnificent in "A Portrait of Jennie," one of the great romantic movies of all times. I am glued to the screen from beginning to end... A haunting performance... Bless you Jennie wherever you are...
I don't know how it has taken me so long to find your blog. I love it! A tidbit for you - Jennifer Jones wasn't very keen on returning to films but was prompted by her husband Norton Simon. He said that she needed to do a quality production to end her career. Prior to that, her last film was the disasterous "Angel Angel Down We Go" which, if you haven't seen, is great fun. It is unbelievable that she agreed to such a thing!
Hi, Phillip. It occurs to me that you've heard JJ say your name many times if you watched "The Towering Inferno" as that was little Bobby Brady's character's name in the movie! LOL I have "Angel, Angel" on BluRay and got a big kick out of it! I agree completely that it's a wild choice for her to have done. I would have featured the movie here, but getting screencaps from the film on my laptop only works for DVDs, sadly, and I never worked on it further. At least she looked good in parts of it. She got a Golden Globe nomination for "Inferno," as did Fred Astaire and I believe she was dejected when only he managed to score an Oscar nod as well. But at least she had her millions to salve the pain. If I recall correctly, she used some of her own personal art pieces (from her marriage to Simon) to dot the decor of her character's studio/apartment in the movie! Thanks for commenting and I'm very glad you are enjoying this blog, including older posts. Take care.

"Thank you for your nice message, and for the link to your blog. I had actually seen your blog before - a friend showed it to me a year or two ago. You clearly have an intense and wonderful passion for cult and genre cinema... Thank you for joining my page, and for sharing your passion for EARTHQUAKE and other films of that remarkable era in our industry. My husband would have gotten a huge kick out of it! With love, Monica"-- Monica Lewis Tribute to Monica
"I just discovered your profile about me and my career. I was flattered and very happy with the photos (some I had never seen) and your talented style of writing. As a gesture of thanks, I would like to send you a signed copy of my book. I think you would enjoy it. So if you would like one or a signed photo, let me know with an address I can send it to. - Sincerely, Mark Goddard" (via e-mail) Tribute to Mark
