Boze! you tapped a rich vein there Poseidon. I bought "Hollywood Gays" just for the title at a local thrift shop. Little did I know the book would turn out to be as riveting as its author was provocative-Boze Hadleigh. It seemed every other page one of his interview subjects would remark on his great looks and overwhelming sex appeal.
The first quote here reminded me of All About Eve, when Addison mentions Eve is too short for a gesture.
I never saw the Peppard photos, that is a shocker. And to think we might never have gotten the "A Team" had his Dynasty career flourished. Sidebar-Carrington cologne that was ubiquitous at every drugstore smells fantastic. I have a vintage bottle and it's shockingly good.
That Capote photo. Yikes! that man really made some bad career moves, makes you appreciate Gore's wisdom.
Is that Truman or Gore posing horizontally in that last pic? Wait, wait--I don't want to know.
If the book quoted Don Johnson that way, it's deliberately editing what he said in a misleading way.
The quote's taken from an interview published in an early issue of "IN TOUCH for Men." Johnson talked to them back when he was starting to get noticed and had recently done a controversial revival of the gay prison play "Fortune and Men's Eyes" directed by and co-starring Sal Mineo. The photo of Johnson embracing another guy (can't remember the actor's name) was from the play, and was one of several the article ran.
The interviewer asked Johnson about working with Mineo and doing full nudity and simulated prison sex scenes onstage (Mineo's production was notorious for going further than previous productions), and then approached the topic of whether Johnson had or would be willing to have sex with another guy in his own life.
Johnson did say what's quoted here, but made it clear in context he was talking about a hypothetical "last resort". He added right after the quote here ends that fortunately, he had a "young, sweet little fifteen-year-old GIRL" (Griffith), and didn't have any interest in exploring sex with guys.
Boze Hadleigh's books are often fun, but need to be read with a five-pound box of Morton's in hand.
Funny how which body types and shapes are thought of as sexy changes over time (or even by culture). I realize that MM's weight fluctuated throughout her career but I never really thought of her as "fat". Perhaps "voluptuous" but never just fat.

I think La Monroe looks both more voluptuous and more healthy than the spindly Hurley creature - the equivalent of liking a little man on my man (now where have I read that?)
Yeah , Hadleigh is controversial, especially with the staff at the California library I work at, and which Hadleigh frequents (we have 25 of his titles in our collection). We are positive he is the "Camp Phantom" who defaced numerous show biz books with a lavender pen, scrawling "Gay" or "Bi" or "?" on photos of performers he suspects of being whatever; also the Phantom penned his comments at some passages or harshly crossed out photo faces of folks like Ronald Reagan, all of which is a misdemeanor.
Since the library director and city attorney considered we don't have the legal grounds to confront him about this, I thank you Poseidon for being able to dish some dirt on HIM.

David, I think the jury's still out on just how deeply involved EP was in considering "Dynasty." She really, really did not enjoy her prior series "Bracken's World" and was probably wary of a repeat. She did so few interviews after that and I don't believe she ever addressed the possibility of being Alexis in them. Someone should have asked her about it! She did pop up to good - and glamorous - effect on "Hotel." She and Collins were also in "Warning Shot" as well as "Sunburn" but never shared any scenes together in either one.
Gingerguy, that's so true about Boze. I know there's basically someone for everyone, but he always wrote as if he was everyone's cup of tea and that these stars were aching to get it on with him! LOL I find him more than a tad creepy, though he does know his stars. I don't know that I ever smelled Carrington. I have worn one cologne every day since 1989 and never vary. I did used to read online how old Forever Krystle began to resemble the scent of cat pee. LOL But that could have just been anonymous cattiness.
Martin, the supine figure is that of Truman. Be grateful. There was a worse photo out there of him holding a towel in front, but not in back... Ha ha!
hsc, I agree with you about the veracity of Hadleigh's work. I didn't alter the actual quote at all myself. That's the way it appeared in the book. Of course, our entire world is confronted with out of context quotes (we call 'em soundbytes now!) that cost people their livelihoods, fans, followers, whatever... It's almost not worth speaking in public unless you're someone with nothing to say. Maybe that's why so many emptyheads are popular. Of course Johnson's quote still comes off as hypothetical since only a science-fiction level cataclysm would rid the world of all females who aren't old/hard whores, etc...
Scooter, I agree. Strangely enough, the picture I chose does seem to either give her a belly or is just unflattering in that way, but it's an EXCEPTION to the rule. She usually looked pretty dang good to me. Soft and womanly rather than a skeleton with two silicon bumps on it.

Stefano, one of my best friends is a librarian so defacing books is a no-no to me as well. How rude! Another friend of mine got into it with her sister-in-law because she failed to use a bookmark and turned down the pages of a book she was lent! LOL So I get you. I sort of didn't even want to promote this "book" of Hadleigh's (because it really is a mess), but I had it handy and I do like to do occasional posts of this sort. I should also say that I recently watched a feature he did on the "Dead Ringer" DVD and while I didn't agree with every single thing he said, he did come off as very informed and adept at what he was doing. That's not always the case on some of these extras you watch... Thanks!
