The other day (believe it or not for the FIRST TIME), I watched the film On the Waterfront. While I easily recognized its sterling qualities (and was impressed by the acting from the terrific cast), it must be said that it isn’t really my type of movie. I tend to go for flicks with more eyelashes, hairpieces, chiffon and “Furs by Alixandre,” etc… It did sort of reignite my interest in Marlon Brando, though, so I went fishing and came upon a variety of photos with him shirtless, handsome, showing off some great legs or otherwise interesting to the eye. Too many of today’s moviegoers only know the obese, strange, at times controversial Brando and may not be aware of just how hunky he was in his prime. So I’ve cast out my net and pulled in some Marlon, from early – near exploitation level – photos taken in a dingy, cluttered New York apartment to his days of training for his film debut in The Men (in which he played a paraplegic) to his turn as Marc Anthony in Julius Caesar to his role as an Aryan in The Young Lions and beyond. Many other books and websites can delve into Brando’s acting talent and legacy. Here, we only deal with the most important topics, such as examining what he looked like as a young man and celebrating his famous face and his once-impressive physique! We’ll call this a photo essay and not say anything else. If you see anything you like, feel free to mount it. If not, you can throw it back. And, no, I’m not including that photo. I like my site to still be accessible to The Concord Ladies Coffee Club, The Sisterhood of the Truro Synagogue and The Friday Evening Baptist Sewing Circle. (Brownie points if you know what that’s from!) As always, click to enlarge!
Yeah, I'm not a huge Marlon Brando fan, either. But you can't deny his blatant and sometimes brutish sex appeal. Great photos, a bunch of which I'd never seen before.
How I agree, not seen a lot of these before. I should have another look at On The Waterfront myself, but I prefer those other 1954 classics like Johnny Guitar or A Star Is Born or The Barefoot Contessa or Sabrina or ....

"Thank you for your nice message, and for the link to your blog. I had actually seen your blog before - a friend showed it to me a year or two ago. You clearly have an intense and wonderful passion for cult and genre cinema... Thank you for joining my page, and for sharing your passion for EARTHQUAKE and other films of that remarkable era in our industry. My husband would have gotten a huge kick out of it! With love, Monica"-- Monica Lewis Tribute to Monica
"Oh, and for those who are looking for fascinating, funny, often outré online reading about vintage, sometimes obscure, movies, TV shows and stars, try the blog, “Poseidon’s Underworld.” You’ll find everything from detailed and witty biographies to posts on how stars wore their clothes — or didn’t — as each show biz decade constricted or loosened up. Heavily illustrated and highly informative". - Liz Smith - Liz Smith - newyorksocialdiary.com
"I just discovered your profile about me and my career. I was flattered and very happy with the photos (some I had never seen) and your talented style of writing. As a gesture of thanks, I would like to send you a signed copy of my book. I think you would enjoy it. So if you would like one or a signed photo, let me know with an address I can send it to. - Sincerely, Mark Goddard" (via e-mail) Tribute to Mark

The jump rope photo is mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
He really wasn't "movie star handsome", but my God that physical, brutish sexuality just oozes out of him!
:-) Glad you enjoyed these pics, Forever1267!
