Hello, faithful friends. I have a bit of distressing news to relay to you all. First, let me say that this is not the end of The Underworld! However, I have suffered a very upsetting experience in that my house was burglarized on Wednesday, May 15th and among those things stolen were my camera and my laptop, the latter item containing hundreds of photos, many of which were lined up for use here in The Underworld.
These tools have been key to my ability to present the large number of photos I post here and additionally there were many pictures lost that were intended to be part of several upcoming posts. Hours and hours of work down the drain. So, sadly, there is going to be a downturn in the number of posts here (and in the seeming exhaustiveness of them) for a while until I am able to get myself back on track and replace these belongings. Please bear with me! I will put things up when I can, but it's a considerable setback, especially when I am in the midst of performing a thirteen-performance run of the play I'm in and am working full-time as well. I am down at present, but not out. Thank you for your support!
No worries. Keep us posted from time to time with or without photos. Perhaps we, your fans, can help restock?
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your misfortune. Of course we will be patient and wish you the best of luck getting everything back together quickly!!
ReplyDeleteOh, no! I would be beside myself. I too have a collection on disk of thousands of pictures. All are G, PG, PG13 with an R thrown in every now and then.
ReplyDeleteIf you need help restocking as Joe suggests, just let us know. We can easily create a public account we can all access to upload pictures to. If you name the subject I have a feeling we can scour the internet for what you are looking in very short order. Especially if the subject is a shirtless male!
Hang in there. XXOO
I'm so sorry. I hope they catch the bastards. Keep us updated.
ReplyDeleteGosh, what a terrible thing to happen. Very stressful! Take it easy and take time to regroup, although you do sound very busy. Don't worry about us! That said, throw out some names, movie titles, subject matters or even just name a year or two and we'd all send you stuff. Like a scavenger hunt!
ReplyDeleteWe shall miss your most informative and fun posts. Hope you can be back soon.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate all of you, your comments and offers of assistance, etc..., in the wake of this. Thing is, the pictures that were lost were mostly created by me. For example, I had planned another in my series of tributes to TV guest stars with shots of them in their respective shows. Other self-captured shots of little curious moments from TV and movies, bulges, showers, swimsuits, etc... that I periodically feature here. It was a ton of work. So they aren't something that can be retrieved with any ease or found anywhere. I'm sure I will be back and loaded for bear once I get replacement items. THANK YOU all so much for your kindess(es!)
ReplyDeleteOh, and one more thing. I have a secondary blog, still very new, based on something I had been doing on Facebook each day which caught on. It's not celebrity-oriented, but is an example of my oddball sense of humor. Vintage photographs with captions that I write ('cause, you know, I don't have enough going on!!) I'm eventually going to stop doing them on FB and have just the blog for them. If you're having withdrawal from my personality - ha! - check it out and see what you think. It's got posts loaded up to release at a rate of one grouping per business day.

I too wish to add my comiserations, I can imagine how you feel - I too have stored several thousand photos on this laptop and on my main computer upstairs, I also have a lot on a memory stick. In fact one should make a backup on a separate memory stick, as not only a robbery but if the computer crashes, one has another version.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your endeavours and every success in carrying on, sometimes too one needs a break from it all, as blogging can take over one's life!
regards
Mike
Hi
ReplyDeleteI just started reading this blog and love it...glad to see I was not the only one warped by pop culture during childhood ; )
Your topics and writing are terrific!
And boo to your getting ripped off.
I will enjoy your archives in the meantime!
Rick
Ugh--That's a major drag. Sorry for your loss. I understand about the images being unique, but if you DO need any material, I'm in. I have a TON of images collected over the years on back-up discs.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, I will check out your other blog. Sound like fun. Good luck and take your time.
My deepest sympathies for your loss and the whole miserable experience that goes along with it. Pox upon the thief's house. Just last week, an intruder was casing my house, or something, at 1 a.m., and I heard him crawling on my roof! His two feet hit the ground with a "Thud!" just as I looked out the window, and our eyes met in a face to face stare-down before he ran off. I tell ya' these rotten S.O.B's are bold. We all need to take extra precautions these days.

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your experience. Terrible, terrible. My sister's home was burglarized recently, and many of the items turned up at a local pawn shop. There may be hope for you to recover your property, too.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of your experience, but glad that YOU are safe and sound and unharmed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible thing to have happen! Hope things settle down soon in the Underworld.
ReplyDeleteThanks again to those of you who came to comment over the weekend. I cannot tell you what it was like to have no computer from Friday afternoon until today, even with FOUR shows to perform over the course of those three days. I will get another laptop and camera soon because I miss both of them so much! I want to at least see what my insurance company has to say first, though.
ReplyDeleteAgain, I appreciate the thoughts of concern and support. I truly do feel fortunate in that there was no vandalism to my home, furniture, etc... which would have been devastating to me. I did go to a local pawn shop and have tried to get all my info, serial numbers, descriptions out there, but most criminals know their way around things like that. They put a lot of energy into being devious and crafty (and, as Narciso said, brazen!)
I was able to channel that emotional upheaval into my performances last week, though, and it helped more than I'd like to admit with some of the more heartfelt segments of the play.
I'll be back as soon as I can, my loves!
Wow, whadda violation. So sorry to hear your news, but, like others, glad YOU are okay and that you could creatively channel that understandable angst. I will easily content myself with older postings until you're back on your feet! My best, C
ReplyDeleteGosh, Poseidon. So sorry to hear about the lousy bit of luck. Truly a pain in the ass to have it happen and be confronted by what a one-off dependency we have with our computers. I had my computer stolen about 5 years ago and lost a lot of rare music (the world is better off, perhaps, in having one less copy of the disco version of "The Chicken of the Sea" jingle) but have since become the master of Back Up and secreted away zip files.
ReplyDeleteGlad mostly that no harm came to you. You'll be up and running in no time. There's still a wealth of your posts I have yet to explore, so just focus on yourself and we'll be here when you get back. My sympathies, however. It's a drag no matter how it comes out. Best of Luck!
Just a quick note to offer you some added support. Hang in there!...and I look forward to your return.
ReplyDeleteJust stumbled onto your blog this morning looking for "the bulge in Peter Breck's pants". ~hangs head in mock shame~ I was comforted to know that it had left a lasting impression on others from my generation, not just this 50 year old woman's memory. lol After perusing several other items, I do believe I have at last found a meaningful, socially redeeming form of entertainment and enlightenment. You take your time. Your work will be worth the wait. Hang in there.
ReplyDeleteWelcome ohsohappy to The Underworld! Thanks very much for taking the time to comment here and elsewhere. Things have been INSANE in my personal and work life lately, but I'm trying to get it all under control. I will be back to more frequent posts soon, I'm sure. Inthe meantime, I do hope you enjoy the stuff that's here.
