Yes, it's a weak sister, but I loved watching Agnes Moorehead zip around in her big Lincoln.marksparkyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06601131043640571653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-22006962192791197842010-12-19T15:44:08.494-05:002010-12-19T15:44:08.494-05:00Just not a realistic picture! The truth is, I'm too cheapo (or maybe broke is the word?!) to pay that much for them, not that they're exorbitant. I am just used to TCM or other satellite stations or $3 bargain bin DVDs in order to see my movies.

Isn't it funny how so many movies (then and maybe now) are appealing because of the second leads or supporting players versus the leads?!

Thanks for reading, y'all!Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-18247427210630903962010-12-19T09:14:26.096-05:002010-12-19T09:14:26.096-05:00Have you purchased any of the made-to-order WB Arc...Have you purchased any of the made-to-order WB Archive DVD-R's? From what I understand, despite the bare bones, no frills packaging and lack of extras, the transfers are usually very good. The Opposite Sex heads the list of ones I'd actually want to buy -- I never compare it, really, to The Women, because, as you said, it's from an entirely different universe.

A year later, as Hollywood continued its fascination with reviving old B&W classics with Cinemascope, Technicolor and so forth, June Allyson attempted to fill some other pretty formidable satin pumps, playing the Carole Lombard role in the Universal remake of My Man Godfrey --which I loved as a kid! I worship the original, of course, but the 1957 version is just so...1957. With Eva Gabor, yet!TJBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09180041865489453236noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-9912427159124316442010-12-18T23:43:23.273-05:002010-12-18T23:43:23.273-05:00i second that high interest! dolores gray is fab!i second that high interest! dolores gray is fab!normadesmondhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17325110017442011627noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-14619433296132122602010-12-17T17:22:05.976-05:002010-12-17T17:22:05.976-05:00June Allyson was such a talent ;)June Allyson was such a talent ;)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-59635894560529323222010-12-17T02:09:16.999-05:002010-12-17T02:09:16.999-05:00Thanks for that, I have always loved The Opposite ...Thanks for that, I have always loved The Opposite Sex, ever since I saw it as a kid - all those 50s gals in those amazing 50s frocks. Allyson is bearable here (love her final red slim gown) but Dolores steals the show as catty Sylvia - it interestingly reworks the original by making her (and not the Countess) the patron of Buck Winston, but all the girls shine: Aggie Moorehead seems to be having a ball as the Countess, and Alice Pearce is fun as the Jungle Red saleslady.

Gray was also terrific as Madeline with her saccharine tv show "The Throb of Manhattan" in Gene and Cyd's "Its Always Fair Weather" where she does the sensational "Thanks a lot but no thanks" number in that ritzy red dress. Dan Daily is terrific here too, and I love her tipping the plate of ravioli into Greg Peck's lap in "Designing Woman" that hymn to 1957.Michael O'Sullivanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17820802843771524920noreply@blogger.com
