Through newspapers I kept up with her comings and goings in NYC. Classy, a marvelous laugh and a delight to watch. Her husband, Moss Hart, was a great talent and Ms. Carlisle was a smart lady to marry him. Her wit, sophistication, charm and kindness made her a wonderful role model for young women.Anniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05385316935300727776noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-75073780237340398802017-10-23T07:52:41.310-04:002017-10-23T07:52:41.310-04:00Thanks, Jason. Needless to say, I feel exactly the same way. Miss Arlene is tremendously overdue for a tribute of her own here. Maybe some day... Seeing the new "To Tell the Truth" (despite the presence of Betty White) just makes me miss people like Ms. Carlisle even more.Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-11315176902922633442016-07-05T17:53:59.497-04:002016-07-05T17:53:59.497-04:00Thank you so much for a grand tribute to an equall...Thank you so much for a grand tribute to an equally grand lady. I have so much affection and admiration for her, built up over my childhood and beyond. To me, she's what all women, or rather all people, should aspire to be: always immaculately put together, cheery, polished and sophisticated, kind and discreet. I really miss her these days, Arlene Francis also, and am afraid they just don't make them like this anymore!McMullenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11051143758318558540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-71256932032587628422012-01-28T19:04:23.570-05:002012-01-28T19:04:23.570-05:00The voice saying "Damn Good Actress" is,...The voice saying "Damn Good Actress" is, I believe, Gene Kelly's.Dimestore Lipstickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00636429198409262756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-65928972267649278322010-10-26T16:22:19.538-04:002010-10-26T16:22:19.538-04:00TJB, I had a sneaking suspicion you might like thi...TJB, I had a sneaking suspicion you might like this subject! Thanks so much for sharing your story about the celebration. How neat! (I wouldn't even be allowed to bring in the chipped ice to a function that snazzy. LOL) Thanks to you (and the others!) for your remarks. There were musical performances by Peter Mintun, the society pianist who knew and worked with Kitty; several cabaret artists of note; and Kitty's final musical accompanist, whose name I regretfully cannot think of at the moment.

Between 50 and 75 smartly dressed Manhattanites gathered in Drew's boyfriend's magnificent penthouse apartment, spilled out onto the terrace, and enjoyed the performances, the background music (supplied by yours truly), the canapes, and the copious cocktails ferried by the pretty waitstaff (male and female). In short, it was exactly the kind of party one would think only existed in Kitty's heyday, but which, thankfully, can occasionally come to fruition today.

On a personal note, I would often see Kitty, right up till the end, elegantly gowned, perfectly coiffed, and tastefully made up, at the opera and ballet. Once, I sat directly across from her, in parallel aisle seats. It was a thrilling rush of glamour. I miss her.

As always, a magnificent writing job, my friend!TJBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09180041865489453236noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-30080892078851570922010-10-24T12:55:05.762-04:002010-10-24T12:55:05.762-04:00Never knew all that about her. It wasn't her experience of him and it was probably true that their life together was very different. And lots of gay men, myself included, treasure our role as fathers, as I'm sure Moss hart did.Topazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15514508159702613771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-9585401118576960572010-10-23T23:14:39.014-04:002010-10-23T23:14:39.014-04:00Great write-up. I've never seen earlier pictures of her before and know her primarily from To Tell The Truth in the 70s, but I'm so glad you mentioned her cameo in Radio Days (one of my favorite movies).
