Looking over this post - six years old by now - made me realize how much of the movie I had forgotten about. I don't think I could have named more than four people in it if I hadn't revisited this page...!! Glad you got to see it. There is plenty of hooty material to savor in it. :-)Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-88176588729807629112023-03-31T17:59:14.330-04:002023-03-31T17:59:14.330-04:00George Gaynes was the lascivious doctor after Doro...George Gaynes was the lascivious doctor after Dorothy Michaels. From there came "Punky Brewster"

I was just shocked when Dyan exits stage left so early in the movie.

I was also surprised by the lengthy medical scene, and that most of the movie is about the men's lives. The women are sidetracked in their own movie.

I found it on Amazon Prime if anyone wants to see it. Anthony Costello looks like someone I've seen before, but can't place it.

Another fun read!Forever1267https://www.blogger.com/profile/17823856461319486720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-92130915688628363342017-11-28T08:21:12.510-05:002017-11-28T08:21:12.510-05:00I'm glad we stumbled upon one of your more-obs...I'm glad we stumbled upon one of your more-obscure favorites, Gingerguy. I'm jealous that you saw this at a drive-in movie! I don't know what it is about Dyan Cannon in this particular period that I just LOVE (I can barely stand her once the 1980s dawned!) No matter what she wore in any movie, in my mind she's always tan, in white clothing, with that frosted mane of hair. She had untapped talent that we only seemed to get glimpses of here and there. Moss Mabry created some really WOW pieces in the "Matt Helm" movies (of which Janice Rule was a costar in one, though not really a fashion plate that time.) I do believe Gaynes was in "Tootsie!" Thanks!Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-30452700467567580432017-11-20T12:12:51.153-05:002017-11-20T12:12:51.153-05:00Wow this was some delicious turkey and it's no...Wow this was some delicious turkey and it's not even Thanksgiving yet! Actually this movie is sacred ground for me, as it's the first film I saw at a drive-in with my parents. I remember distinctly standing on the back seat to look over my Mothers' shoulder. I was 6 years old, but the dirty parts and leopard underwear on someone really stuck in my memory. I had such fond memories that I got a burned copy and had a group viewing on a birthday about 10 years ago (captive audience). I remember the room erupted at the sight of the car phone. Giant receiver and avocado green if I remember correctly?
Clever analysis that this is the genesis of the naughty wives franchises, as this has all the elements of those shows-competition and status. Janice Rule is the Miss thing of the movie in her outfits (will look up everything by Moss Mabry and think he did "Modesty Blaise")but I am all about Dyan Cannon and can see the through line in her look to "The Love Machine".
Lol on the carrot and the hanging lamps, you have an eye Sir.
Rachel Roberts was Welsh, very surprising. I thought German because of her look and what a good job she did in "Orient Express".
John Colicos was very sexy and I think I remember George Gaynes from "General Hospital" and "Tootsie" or he looks a lot like another actor. This movie, while not good, is one of my earliest memories of a happy and strange childhood. Thrilling to see it here.Gingerguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17989371210392669145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-66006011483869720422017-11-20T09:20:23.112-05:002017-11-20T09:20:23.112-05:00Ken, thanks for your personal recollections of the...Ken, thanks for your personal recollections of the movie (and its release.) I don't know why certain movies just seem to careen into a black hole, rarely if ever to be seen again. It's not even a matter of quality since so many awful movies are shown over and over and over. I searched the world for this one until finally getting a burned-to-order DVD a couple of years ago. Thank God for that method because it's provided me with several sought-after titles. I think you would truly love poking fun at this. The clothes, the sometimes hysterically bad acting and the absurd situations. What a cast!

Rick, it surprises me that this was available on TV as you say. Maybe I just wasn't looking for it until it went into hiding after initial airings! I love the "Hollywood Squares" description. RE: Crenna... he really had an eclectic career. From the frothy TV comedies to big, but not very successful, movies then rebounding on TV again (I can never forget him in "The Rape of Richard Beck" - a very daring TV movie about a belligerent man who is sexually assaulted) and finally becoming so well known for "Rambo" flicks! He also did a sitcom I loved as a kid with Patty Duke (was it called "It Takes Two?") The first time I saw Cara Williams in this movie I was just completely appalled, but I've since come to enjoy her in it, good or bad. LOL Thanks!Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-68210417573727465042017-11-18T14:08:40.896-05:002017-11-18T14:08:40.896-05:00Hey Poseidon, this was one of those films that pop...Hey Poseidon, this was one of those films that popped up on the afternoon movies when I was a kid, with all the "good parts" cut out!

What a strange, Hollywood Squares type cast... hard to imagine most of them in the same movie together, much less married to each other!

Doctors Wives would make a great double feature with The Love Machine, apparently.

Rhetorical question: Why do I always get Richard Crenna and Earl Holliman mixed up?

And Gene Hackman always seemed to be too good at playing creeps!

Cara Williams reminds me of a cross between an aging Lucille Ball and Helen Lawson...

That hat on Janice Rule makes her look like a mod Mary Poppins!

Cheers, haven't thought this movie in years!

Rickhttp://ricksrealreel.blogspot.com/https://www.blogger.com/profile/14243899548141583461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-8646140427145540002017-11-17T16:47:54.443-05:002017-11-17T16:47:54.443-05:00As a 70s movie maven, this was one of those films ...As a 70s movie maven, this was one of those films I was chomping at the bit to see when it came out. I was 12 at the time, and had seen several R-rated movies, but due to the salacious nature of the advertising, this was one my parents put their foot down on and forbade me to see (although they went to see it on one of their rare date nights, further solidifying in my mind it was hot adults only stuff).
I was left to check out the deadly-dull novel from the library and only seeing the movie many years later when it was on TCM or something. Like you, I'm not a fan of Medical ANYTHING, and so the hospital setting, the dick-witheringly unappealing male cast, and Dyan Cannon's minimal screen time made "Doctors' Wives" a big disappointment for me. A movie I've never seen again, but you photos (that HAT on Janice Rule!) makes me think it's worth at least a look-see with my partner, if only to talk at the screen.
Thanks for all the bio info on the "stars"- what a oddball assortment of TV-familiar faces mixed with the likes of Sands, Rule, and Roberts. Always loved Dyan Cannon, have never been able to figure out what she was doing with her career at this time...the roles she took on!
Love that you covered this. I'd almost forgotten about it.Ken Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04940648971296673233noreply@blogger.com
