Thank you SO much for taking time to comment and for saying such nice things about P.U. :-) I was thrilled to see your news about the Irwin Allen collection on BluRay. But... Here's my problem. I already bought every movie, including the 2 4-hour miniseries, on DVD and as much as I want to see the extended parts of "BTPA" I can't justify spending over $100 for it. (I have the extended "WTRO" on VHS already, too. Sounds chintzy, but that's actually the ratio I think it's in on the BluRay anyway?) I'm gonna keep an eye out, though, and if it comes down in cost I will jump off the cliff and get it. Thanks again! An update for you about this movie. I...Hi Poseidon! An update for you about this movie. It’s been released on blu-ray as part of the “Irwin Allen Master of Disaster” collection as of Sept 2023. I’m sure you’ve gotten that news. But the good news is that the disc also includes the expanded version! Good things come to he who waits. The collection itself is fantastic.
Btw, love love love your site. Long time reader. Great to find kindred spirits who know the true joy in things like Faye in THAT dress, Crawford’s magnificent appeal, numerous bulges across movie and tv, etc.. Great job. LOL We live in a short attention span world. Even mine isn't what it once was, though I still have a long one. I have watched "King of Kings&...Hi, Gingerguy! I have watched "King of Kings" around Easter a few times. I love Jeffrey Hunter and the evilness of Frank Thring and Rita Gam. It took me a LONG time to believe that this version of the nurse was the same one from the original! I had to be convinced by copies of the scripts that listed her name as such. How could she go from "We're following the doctor. Come with us, Reverend!" in a burnt out section of the ship, heading downhill and then later be found in the spotless gym on the other side of the boat, sitting in the steam room?!?! Just more of the idiocy that prevailed. Even the passengers she was with were in robes and nightclothes, yet the two she's with now are in formal wear... :::sigh:::

David, I know I saw "Goliath" a long time ago when (I think) TNT re-ran it. I think Emma Samms was in it, which was why I watched. Harmon is so SKINNY in BTPA! I like him a tad more filled out as he was when he made it to People's Sexiest Man Alive status. ;-)

Joel: "Poorly designed community center"!!! LOLOL Glad I swallowed my coffee before that...! Sally wisecracks continuously in this and it's not so much that she isn't good at it or not funny, it's just that it is never balanced with any real sense of danger or concern. As you say, the utter lack of urgency when the prior movie had everyone darting upwards to escape water! Here, it seems like they go lower and lower and lower and it's so dry!! Ridiculous.

I'm glad you three enjoyed this post. It was linked by someone to a "The Poseidon Adventure" tribute page on Facebook where it was deemed "interminable!" LOLOL This isn't even close to my longest posting either....! Different strokes for different folks, I guess.Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-42059716908952297872017-01-20T09:33:28.475-05:002017-01-20T09:33:28.475-05:00Oy Poseidon what a lox this one is!! But eventually I bit the bullet and gave it a view and it was so impossibly stupid I couldn't even connect it to the other film.

First off as you mentioned everything is so CLEAN!! God's teeth it's like they're in a poorly designed community center for most of the time. Plus the lack of urgency for people who are on an inverted ocean liner is absurd.

The real kicker is the total waste of such a talented cast. You have a collection of Oscar level talent and this is the best you can do with them? Poor Sally, to go from Norma Rae to this. I'm guessing she switched agents after this turkey. Her films are an up and down lot overall but even with lemons like Hooper and Punchline scattered throughout this is the bottom of the barrel. Likewise Michael Caine who must be made of Teflon to survive and thrive after the head spinning number of wretched films he made and unlike Sally this has a lot of competition for the worst of his career.

Glad you mentioned Shirley Knight. Many of the actors are phoning it in but she does try. Too bad she doesn't have more to work with but it is an example of gold among dross.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-27413306093767322282017-01-20T00:31:11.195-05:002017-01-20T00:31:11.195-05:00Mark Harmon barely had enough time to dry off befo...Mark Harmon barely had enough time to dry off before he went back into the water - to the bottom of the sea this time, in Goliath Awaits. Ridiculous as the premise was, Goliath Awaits is good enough that it makes up for Beyond the Poseidon Adventure (IMO).David B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13443137432385910107noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-14273427163837920372017-01-18T11:50:07.308-05:002017-01-18T11:50:07.308-05:00That last photo is a scream Poseidon. But back to...That last photo is a scream Poseidon. But back to the beginning of this, I totally get holiday movie traditions. Every year I watch "The 10 Commandments". It doesn't seem like Easter without it. I also watch a dvd of "Lord Of The Dance" for St. Patrick's, which is off the charts for camp.
What a kooky premise for a movie and transparent bid for sequel dollars. I love Veronica Hamel. She is definitely one of the more talented from the pantheon of models turned actress. She does look really gorgeous in this, disheveled and all.
Hilarious contrast in the Shirley Jones "doppelganger". Even Shirley's hair is slimmer (though I love the chubby versions'fierce hair/cap combo).
Mark Harmon was gorgeous and still looks great, damn him.
I just finished a book on Sue Mengers, who was Michael Caine's agent during this time. Her strategy was to get his salary up and make him an American movie star. He was thrilled with it, and it makes sense regarding the truly awful things he was in then. "The Swarm" takes the cake. You just may have given me a new activity on New Year's Eve with this post!Gingerguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17989371210392669145noreply@blogger.com
