You'll love this... I just went over there to check the author's sources. If they'd just read their own citation #4, the information would be correct!Julia V.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16819235931394336812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-22199111020057520282022-11-23T08:10:17.296-05:002022-11-23T08:10:17.296-05:00Lo these TEN YEARS later, I can't recall how o...Lo these TEN YEARS later, I can't recall how or why I listed Browne's father as a restaurant owner. As for the siblings, even today Wikipedia (which I grant is not the most reliable place) notes her two brothers...! I will fix the text in the post. Thanks. Despite having adored her when my mother first introduced me to "Auntie Mame," I only recently truly discovered her and am in love. Oh, if only to have seen her on the stage!!

But what led me to comment is to correct 2 items. First, Coral had no brothers -- she was an only child. Also, her father was employed as a purveyor for Victorian Railways, not a restaurateur. But thanks for the excellent summary of her main productions & life. I'm so happy to have discovered your website!Julia V.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16819235931394336812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-44623957272675111052020-08-18T08:51:07.715-04:002020-08-18T08:51:07.715-04:00I'm glad you were able to wade back to this ol...I'm glad you were able to wade back to this older post and enjoy it. And reading about her life on the stage and never realizing that she was married to Vincent Price, thank you for filling in all that. Definitely, we do not have actors like her any longer. The world is a less funny or authentic place without her.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13283181603872713156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-80007865661494528602016-04-02T11:57:00.743-04:002016-04-02T11:57:00.743-04:00Never too late, Harpo! I read somewhere Barry "Edna Everage" Humphries said of her at a memorial service,

"She left behind an emptiness/A gap, a void, a trough/The world is quite a good deal less/Since Coral Browne fucked off."

I can just hear that delighted, salty Vera Charles-like cackle from that great stage above. Last night, I saw Nancy Kwan and Pat Boone in The Main Attraction, a bizarre circus movie with Keiron Moore and Mai Zetterling, too. Boone was trying (and not really succeeding) in playing a drifter/rebel character.Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-31396564340706846332012-01-12T00:11:12.937-05:002012-01-12T00:11:12.937-05:00Dear TCM - if only we had the US version here in t...Dear TCM - if only we had the US version here in the UK! A Nancy Kwan day ! I would love that ...
Perfect description of Lotte in Mrs Stone, no one does decadence like Lenya - Anne Bacroft just did not compare in the Helen Mirren later version [2002?], there may have been more nudity but less corruption, the height of Anne's decadence seemed to be stealing the chocolate biscuits!Michael O'Sullivanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17820802843771524920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-50973536411641855722012-01-12T00:05:00.697-05:002012-01-12T00:05:00.697-05:00Lovely stuff again. The book by Rose Collis is a great read about the kind of theatre people we just don't have any more.
I understand her role in Lylah Clare with the leg clamp was meant to be showbusiness columnist Radie Harris - whatever, the film just isn't quite good or camp enough.
Her Vera Charles certainly steals the show from Roz, no mean feat!Michael O'Sullivanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17820802843771524920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-14116942083694245462012-01-11T13:22:49.252-05:002012-01-11T13:22:49.252-05:00SAME SHIRT.SAME SHIRT.normadesmondhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17325110017442011627noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-49857172018762288572012-01-11T13:16:13.305-05:002012-01-11T13:16:13.305-05:00I love that story, Norma, and have never seen/hear...I love that story, Norma, and have never seen/heard it, so it's most welcome here!
