I think my ex
was on it that first year. He was (still is) a huge movie buff so he
went to an audition of sorts where he was chosen as a contestant. The
show was filmed and shown several weeks later and he couldn't bear to
watch himself so he went out with his guy friends instead. I watched
it with our three year-old son, who kept saying "hi, Daddy!" to the
screen.

Unfortunately those days were before the advent of video recorders, so
my ex's moment in the sun was lost. It was kind of cool when Walter
Matthau came out because it was completely unexpected. He went around
and shook hands with the contestants---made my ex's day, that's for
sure. He was such a movie freak that I remember we went to the
drive-in one night and saw a TRIPLE feature (I think one movie was
"Easy Rider" and another was "The Trip", after that it all was a
blur!) and then when we got home well after midnight he watched
another movie on television. I'm telling you, I was exhausted!

Another good book I read a couple of months ago was a biography of
Edith Head, the fashion designer for the movies. A LOT of good info.
in it about the stars and their figure problems, etc. Not long after,
I watched "All About Eve" and knowing what went on during Bette Davis'
costume fittings with Edith really enhanced my viewing enjoyment.

Thanks for all your great posts! I'm trying to catch up to as many as I can.Ima June Pullethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17323298147048526193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-79260586973887487332010-08-18T14:51:24.730-04:002010-08-18T14:51:24.730-04:00Thanks, IJP! I recall seeing her on Murder, She Wrote as a town busybody. I don't think I knew she was on that game show (or even that it existed!)Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-25597232983078222732010-08-18T14:15:50.896-04:002010-08-18T14:15:50.896-04:00Wow, so much great information! I'd seen the ...Wow, so much great information! I'd seen the Bob Hope book at the library and now I'll have to check it out. I recently read a biography of Hedda Hopper that I found pretty fascinating.

My ex-husband got to meet Katharine Grayson once in the late 60's when he was a contestant on a short lived show called "The Movie Game." She was one of the celebrity panelists. They had some pre-written banter for him to engage in with her. He didn't win, but at the end of the show Walter Matthau made a surprise appearance, so it was worth it for him to give it a try. Also, I got some good stuff from the Spiegel catalog gift certificate which was one of the consolation prizes!Ima June Pullethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17323298147048526193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-82531421938842593732010-08-05T02:23:33.007-04:002010-08-05T02:23:33.007-04:00Norma, that's one of my favorite books about h...Norma, that's one of my favorite books about her! I love the large format, the pictures and Walker's attempts to be understanding of the pressures she was under(I actually bought it the same day it came out!)
And Poseidon,I just checked your archives for your review of Cheryl's book-nice work! Like Valley Of The Dolls, the Lana book is one I like to read before bed (it just makes me feel happy,K? UNBELIEVABLE! There's one on Bette Davis, too, that I meant to buy at Christmas and didn't. I still want that. (There's one like it about Lucille Ball, but I'm not quite THAT much a lover of Lucy to plunk down the dough.) I would fall down dead on the ground if they did one of those on Joan. The photos would be unbelievable. She deserves it, so I do hope someone puts it together.Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-85784609669488008872010-08-03T23:42:57.933-04:002010-08-03T23:42:57.933-04:00It sounds like we have similar taste in books!

Knowing we share a mutual love of all things Lana Turner, have you read her daughter Cheryl's latest book about her?
