I'm glad you liked this post and that you enjoy dipping into P.U. regularly! ;-)

Gingerguy, I seem to recall ads for "Howard the Duck" being on the back page of SO many comic books and/or magazines when it was about to be released. I had never once read the comic upon which it was based and, since it wasn't animated, but instead animatronic, it just held no interest for me at all. Still doesn't, except as an example of a big flop.

Joel, thanks for providing insight on each of the pieces of turkey! LOL I haven't seen "Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed?" but I agree that with that cast, there has to be some degree of value to it. I've never attempted "Heaven's Gate." Not my kind of flick at ALL... I didn't hate "Tall Story," but found it sort of cute. I tracked it down for Van Williams and his famous towel scene and enjoyed the rest okay. For me, the 2-hour documentary on the MAKING of "Cleopatra" is far better than the movie. Just extraordinary the amount of waste... I am a die-hard "The Big Valley" fan and adore everyone on it. It drives me nuts that MeTV cuts and - especially - speeds up the show in its broadcasts. The DVD release was a big flop, which was a shame because it's such a well-done series. The music from it is so memorable, too.Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-32995439647842806722017-11-25T17:28:04.213-05:002017-11-25T17:28:04.213-05:00A little late but Happy Thanksgiving to you Poseid...A little late but Happy Thanksgiving to you Poseidon! This was marvelous!

I will admit to having seen all these films and by and large I will agree that these performers are right to feel that way about the films.

But while a few were no barnburners they were hardly the horror shows they remember them as.

How can you not at least get a little kick out Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed? I mean come on Carol Burnett and Elizabeth Montgomery in the same movie! I know they were long time friends so I guess they met here and bonded over the experience.

Gene Tierney is gorgeous in Shanghai Gesture but it was a dog of a picture despite the fabulous makeup job on Ona Munson.

A large part of what's wrong with Heaven's Gate is that there's just too damn much of it! Cripes you could cut over an hour out of it and it would still be too long but that's not Joe Cotton's fault.

Mr. Universe is a piece of piffle but it was a harmless comedy. Anything with Jack Carson in it is never a total waste of time and Vince is in great shape if that's your type.

I think Jane was rather tough on Tall Story. It's a relic of its time to be sure but she and Perkins are pert and sunny.

Newman however was completely on point about The Silver Chalice. Bow Wow!

It's been a long time and Rosalind Russell assuredly made far better films and gave far better performances but I don't recall The Casino Murder Case as being that painful a watch.

Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick was also known as Marshmallow Moon and that sticky sweet title is a perfect fit for that glug fest.

Howard the Duck! Just no.

My sister tried to convince me that Cleopatra was before it time and is undervalued and all I could think was "Were we watching the same movie?" Lumbering about fits it though I'll concede that it's a dazzling looking film.

Brando was a selfish tool who was frequently a nightmare to work with so he was hardly one to cast stones but I didn't think much of The Freshman either.

Poor Diana Dors such a knockout in those two films but neither is very good. She's completely spot on about not being given the proper leading men or presented in the correct way to American audiences though The Unholy Wife is at least lurid fun.

As a pageant for glamorous clothes and jewels Diane is aces but as a movie going experience it's akin to watch molasses move across the screen very slowly.

At least The Amazing Transparent Man is fun in a train wreck sort of way, though it sounds hellish to have been involved in, but The Naked Ape was just bad, bad, bad.

Love the picture from The Big Valley, LOVE The Big Valley!!, but aside from Peter Breck everybody looks curiously uncomfortably posed. Terrific color composition though.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-54367893346980181632017-11-25T07:29:02.217-05:002017-11-25T07:29:02.217-05:00Hope you had a great Thanksgiving Poseidon. After hearing about it for years, I recently got "Howard The Duck" on netflix. I didn't make it all the way through but the inter species love story was the most disturbing aspect. I think Leah worked a little too hard. I believed her!Gingerguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17989371210392669145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-83576446699962326962017-11-23T22:02:29.720-05:002017-11-23T22:02:29.720-05:00Happy Thanksgiving to you, as well, Poseidon!
