They were probably considered too theatrical.

Marion Marlowe and Kurt Kasznar introduced them on Broadway.Labuanbajohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02868669229565228124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-21108597683299861792010-11-05T12:53:31.882-04:002010-11-05T12:53:31.882-04:00There are a few blurry or otherwise old youtube cl...There are a few blurry or otherwise old youtube clips from Bracken's World and I would love to see the entire series! Eleanor was only on season one with her boss not shown, then the next season she was out and the boss was played by Leslie Nielson of all people! (And, yes, I was too young to ever see it, being born in '67. It's nice to be too young for SOMETHING! LOL) I think I read someplace that occasional "real" stars would pop up on the show to help provide verisimilitude. Thanks, Topaz!Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-8277700621688893602010-11-05T10:49:25.662-04:002010-11-05T10:49:25.662-04:00I think Christopher Plummer is so good at what he ...I think Christopher Plummer is so good at what he does, and is really so ubiquitous in modern American cinema, that it's easy to glide over his accomplishments in many movies. I saw The Last Station and enjoyed it but forgot that was CP in it! And I loved The Silent Partner. It was one of the last times Elliot Gould looked sexy in a movie and CP was so magnificently malevolent.

You've probably never seen Bracken's World, Poseidon, as I doubt it ever made it to DVD, but it was a late '60s TV melodrama about life in a movie studio. Eleanor Parker was one of the stars, playing, if I recall correctly, the assistant to the studio head. I think I watched it mostly because Dennis Cole was in and I hoped he would take his shirt off. Some things never change.Topazhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15514508159702613771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-84057097772334687842010-11-05T07:39:54.755-04:002010-11-05T07:39:54.755-04:00Joe! Maybe she was put off by my inherent crazy (lol), but I think she's just done with all of it and lives in a very private manner.

Todd (TJB), I did do a tribute to EP in my earliest days here (and you even left a comment on the post!), but it's sort of long forgotten now. It was when I was still doing shorter posts and hadn't yet been overcome with the need to blather on and on and ON! Ha! You can see it again by clicking her name on the right. I will probably write on some of her films in the future or perhaps do another blurb about her.

Oh, and I've always been petrified of attending a sing-along because I get very "in" to SOM and worry that I will be turned off by all the yahoos around me. However, I must say I felt the same way towards a Poseidon Adventure musical that was taking place, but when I attended, I laughed as hard as anyone at it!

Thanks!Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-77239329158088861202010-11-05T01:12:35.668-04:002010-11-05T01:12:35.668-04:00How many times can I say, "What a wonderful p...How many times can I say, "What a wonderful post on ______"? But, really, you always leave me in admiring awe.

I finally saw The Sound of Music on the big screen last week, albeit in its singalong incarnation. Don't get me wrong, the singalong aspect was fun and camp and all of that; but it did detract from the visual and dramatic beauty of the film. Sugar and syrup aside, it's an astoundingly well-crafted, well-directed piece of moviemaking. And Christopher Plummer is just dead sexy.

Eleanor Parker! She is my absolute favorite character in the film, and I can only hope that you do an essay on her one day. If you do, you'll have to tell me... to bring along my harmonica.TJBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09180041865489453236noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-14413545107776600582010-11-05T00:09:57.882-04:002010-11-05T00:09:57.882-04:00NO WAY!
