So it's been a while since I've gotten to appreciate him (and the deliciously campy Miss JC!) in it.Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-55374504936208798542024-01-26T07:55:07.632-05:002024-01-26T07:55:07.632-05:00I recently saw Land of the Pharaohs in German tele...I recently saw Land of the Pharaohs in German television (sadly a dubbed version), and as soon as I saw Mr Martin's bare-chested costume, I knew you'd have had something to say! He always wrote back and signed anything and everything his fans wanted. Unfortunately Dewey Martin passed away March 11, 2018 at home with his common law wife, my son and his wife, and my wife and myself. He was 94 years old.
He was the kindest man I ever knew. He was also my hero. Never heard him
Talk of the war or Jack LaLanne. The only reason they broke up was because he was very disenchanted with Hollywood and wanted to go to Italy, but my mother had come over from Sweden and had a promising career as a stock broker in NYC. She said he was the most romantic man she had ever met and they had a wonderful adventure together.BW Homehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15280414502155647525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-49850226874565525322018-01-16T06:47:10.923-05:002018-01-16T06:47:10.923-05:00Dear John Sheridan,

His beauty and good acting got me through a horrible back surgery a few years ago, so now I associate him with victory. Did not know he was also a war hero. Please thank him.

P.S. (I will correct his birth month. As this post is 6 years old now, I cannot recall what might have gone wrong with respect to that!) I cannot imagine the horrors he underwent as a Japanese POW. So wonderful that he survived, was able to proceed to a career and live a long life. Best wishes.Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-30534381132759446922017-09-10T13:57:56.812-04:002017-09-10T13:57:56.812-04:00Dewey Martin is alive and living well. There are a couple things that are not correct, and others some of you might be interested in.

His birthday is 12/8/23
He started smoking during WWII as a Navy Pilot, but later on quit. But often times his movie roles required him to smoke.
He flew Hellcats. Fought in the Midway Battle. Had to put his plane down in the ocean because he was running out of fuel and no carriers to land on. He was shot down twice. The first time the Americans found him. The second times the Japanese found him. He was a POW for I believe 7 or 9 months and came out weighing 80 pounds.
After the war he got work as an extra because he could ride horses. Westerns were all the rage back then.
He also became best friends with Jack LaLanne.
He does drink red wine and red wine only.John Sheridanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02003993172985933171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-3005443133514024892014-07-02T07:38:08.063-04:002014-07-02T07:38:08.063-04:00Dave, LOTP has many marvels in it apart even from ...Dave, LOTP has many marvels in it apart even from Dewey! It's deliciously campy and garish with a great villainous turn by Joan Collins. You won't be disappointed! And "Tennessee Champ" is another one of Dewey's films to keep an eye peeled for. People go on about the Hawksian women but he also often had a pretty young guy in the mix - Ricky Nelson, young James Caan, the guys in Hatari (Hardy Kruger! - now there's someone to appreciate) and certainly Dewey !Michael O'Sullivanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17820802843771524920noreply@blogger.com
