I posted a lot in August, but September has been elusive thanks to the holiday weekend and a theatre convention I was attending. Won't be long, though, before another campy post. ;-)Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-18694118928144813492014-09-05T21:16:54.137-04:002014-09-05T21:16:54.137-04:00I have been SO remiss in my Poseidon visits and us...I have been SO remiss in my Poseidon visits and used today to catch up. What a treasure trove I've been missing! This post in particular is like one of those tours through a forgotten TV museum with a knowledgeable guide (had no idea Toma transmogrified into Baretta!)
Fave image is the one of Juliet Prowse and Diahann Carroll. What a find! But sharing the stage with Ken Berry and John Davidson? What a grab bag of variety 70s TV was!
Ken Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04940648971296673233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-1596612603943652942014-09-03T14:46:11.850-04:002014-09-03T14:46:11.850-04:00Oh yes, Patrick Cassidy! I remember seeing him in a show where they DID manage to get his shirt off before the song was over. You gotta do what's necessary to keep the lights on. :-)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10845967694366470260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-89731401604659068992014-09-03T08:33:25.505-04:002014-09-03T08:33:25.505-04:00Scooter, nice to see you again! Glad you liked thi...Scooter, nice to see you again! Glad you liked this. :-)

Joel, I knew what you meant in your post. We all get carried away typing and it happens (sometimes, to my horror, within my posts!!) I remember being jealous of JoAnn Pflug because she was the wife of Chuck Woolery, who I was near-obsessed with as a kid! I'm ashamed that I didn't connect Peggy Pope to "9 to 5" because I just did that show in May! (But I deliberately didn't watch the movie beforehand.) And Renee does recall Christine Belford in that photo!

Dave, I have never understood Shaun Cassidy's appeal, but I often include him in things here because so many others like him. (If I'm choosing a Cassidy, I always go for Patrick! Ha ha!) I also loved Parker, though in rewatching the show later, he had a disconcertingly whispery voice!

I wish I would have kept some of those old "cheap" TV programs like this from our local paper. As a trivia nut, even as a child, I used to LOVE the segment in which a TV critic/reporter would answer obscure questions about shows and stars. And often they'd print addresses, too! I always found the grid included easier to deal with than TV Guide (which the neighbors had) and it used to be that TV Guide never even had one. It was solely the listings by time. Later they added that. Of course now, there are SO MANY channels that it's mind-boggling to look at a grid. I just use my onscreen guide and hope for the best...

Thank you so much, everyone, for reading and responding to this post. Perhaps in time I'll do another one similar to it.Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-66674629355454311022014-09-02T20:53:44.133-04:002014-09-02T20:53:44.133-04:00I remember those mags and we couldn't afford t...I remember those mags and we couldn't afford the "fancy" TV Guide so I had to settle for the one in the paper. I remember laboriously planning out my TV watching when they published the nightly schedule at the start of the new season.

I vividly recall Bridget Loves Bernie and watched it from the beginning so that might be around when I became aware of late night TV enough to plan ahead. I had already been watching MTM and That Girl, etc.

Lucie Arnaz is a fantastic singer. I've got her show a couple of times. I think maybe she just didn't NEED to be a performer and only does it occasionally. I imagine with all that Desilu cash, plus all the time involved in running her parents' estates, that she doesn't really have the need or time for it anyway.

Rich Man Poor Man was a really big deal at my house. I remember even then being confused that Nick & Peter were supposed to be brothers since their looks didn't even really put them in the same country, let alone family.

I loved Parker Stevenson on The Hardy Boys even though my sisters were crazy for Shaun. I guess I've always liked the "older" guys! :-)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10845967694366470260noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-62403906981194510702014-09-02T12:00:14.983-04:002014-09-02T12:00:14.983-04:00Oops! Where to begin, I lo...What a trip down memory lane! Where to begin, I loved those TV Weeks and being the devoted viewer that I was as a kid I read them cover to cover. I remember several of these covers! Oy! that makes my bones creak!

I have only a vague memory of the Engelbert Humperdinck show but for some reason I do recall a show where Millicent Martin was a guest all dolled up in some sparkly dress and sky high hair singing a song. No idea of the song just her and the outfit, I'd forgotten all about it until she popped up as Daphne's mom on Frasier and for some reason it struck a chord.

Don't Fold, Spindle or Mutilate is one of the old TV movies I've caught on Youtube recently. Within the 70's restrictions it was pretty good and the ladies were all great.

I'm not surprised by that story about George Peppard. From what I've read in Elizabeth Ashley's bio their divorce was incredibly ugly and elsewhere I've read he was quite a tool overall.

I adore Suzanne Pleshette but that curly shag is horrific!! Proving that even beautiful women looks can be ruined by a bad haircut.

I remember that McCloud episode with Joanne Pflug! I had such a crush on her when I was a kid she seemed like so much fun right up there with Barbara Feldon. Then she apparently became some kind of religious nut and vanished which is a shame.

I also have a vague recall of Lotsa Luck, if I remember properly it was on Friday nights and both Kathleen Freeman and Beverly Archer were fun. Archer was everywhere in the 70's, Freeman too, she was a recurring guest star on Rhoda as one of her old friends who was perpetually pregnant.

I forgot that was Peggy Pope on that Golden Girls episode. I always think of her in 9 to 5 as the secret lush Margaret Foster whose main line is Atta Girl! and stuns Dabney Coleman in the last scene with her new appearance.

I LOVED The New Land! A western starring Bonnie Bedelia, who I fell for when she briefly played Little Joe's wife on Bonanza, was heaven to me and I was sorry it didn't last.

Rich Man, Poor Man was such an event! They published it like crazy before it came on and it was a huge topic of conversation during it's run. It helped that the cast was so star studded except for the leads who of course were all big for quite some time after, Nick Nolte is certainly the one who benefited the most.

I love Renee Taylor, and Joe Bologna, and I can see traces of her in that photo but who she reminds me of most is Christine Belford, another 70-80's guest star staple.

Natalie's remake of From Here to Eternity wasn't bad, it couldn't approach the original of course but on its own merit it was entertaining. She looks almost frozen in that snap whereas William Devane, a fine distinctive actor, looks quite relaxed.

Thanks Poseidon for bringing back so many memories of when regular TV showed a varied collection of choices.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-34468356619484781872014-09-02T08:21:51.566-04:002014-09-02T08:21:51.566-04:00Okay, that was just lots of fun! It's a shame the way network tele has practically fallen apart.

Gobi, thank you for your kind words. I'm glad that you found the underworld and are enjoying it! George Peppard was a pretty complicated actor, many of his projects seem to have had conflict from one side or the other.Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-8184117360513884722014-08-29T17:53:28.876-04:002014-08-29T17:53:28.876-04:00george peppard was such a handsome devil. tis rath...george peppard was such a handsome devil. tis rather a shame that he gave up on his series for so petty a reason. only two entries for him on netflix streaming, and one is the A-Team - i can't sit through that.

thanks for all your lovely, nostalgic posts poseidon! i'm so glad i found your site.

S.Gobihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08501067122640778825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-50087638656107408352014-08-29T14:05:54.249-04:002014-08-29T14:05:54.249-04:00My favorite cover is with Joe and Renee on it. It's kind of hard to upstage Fran, but she's good enough to do it.

Dan Haggerty is next up, and after him "The Hardy Boys." I had such a crush on Parker Stevenson. Shawn not so much. I always thought he looked like Kim Richards in drag.

I never understood the appeal of Lucie Arnaz, though Desi Jr. could've played my drums any time he wanted.

Oh, I find it interesting that Stockard Channing's show with such a large share of the audience. As you reflect, the alphabet networks would kill for that kind of audience today. As it was recently reflected on the Emmys, TV is having a golden era. Sadly, ABC, NBC and CBS have absolutely nothing to do with it.
