I agree with you that, for him, performing was his life. He kept at it all along. I recently got the first three seasons of TSOSF on DVD and I don't know if John Davidson was on during that time or after. Hopefully, I'll get to see it. I wish the set had included all the seasons, because I like Richard Hatch who took over when Michael Douglas left. Thanks for reading and for commenting on this (now quite) vintage post!Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-77341375131608765792020-08-04T22:06:58.456-04:002020-08-04T22:06:58.456-04:00I still can't believe I saw Milton Berle live ...I still can't believe I saw Milton Berle live on stage in drag! It was the 25th anniversary of Stonewall and Charles Busch got this evening together at Town Hall theater in New York with all these drag queens. I keep thinking Charles Perce was in it but can't really remember. I did find the program and NY Times review going through stuff during my apt remodel last month but where did I put them? Anyhow, Berle was the surprise guest and when he hit the stage it was like the place was struck by lightning! So unbelievable to me and all the men in the audience who had been brought up watching his drag appearances on his 50's TV show. In those day you had Uncle Miltie who played it for laughs and Christine Jorgensen who did it for real and made people think. I think he was wearing the same blonde pageboy in the picture with Bo Hope and was hilarious "for a while". They literally had to drag him off the stage. He just wouldn't leave! But I said to my ex (we split up during the trip to New York for the Stonewall thing!) that performing for him is like living for the rest of us and being on stage is his normal. So it had a sadness but was a staggering moment as well!

Oh yes I remember Medical Center when Robert Reed played the transgendered person. It was a 2 part episode which was mostly about was this right or wrong but the money shot came at the end of the second episode when we finally saw Robert as a woman and I remember being so disappointed. It was just Robert Reed in a hat and a wig. I guess I was expecting glamour.

Gene Hackman DOES look like JoAnne Castle! That's hilarious!

I also remember that Streets of San Francisco with John Davidson. Seems like I saw it in reruns and he was a big deal doing that talk show so it was kind of a jolt to see him play that role.

How sad about David Huffman. I remember him from lots of shows back then and thought he was kind of dreamy.

You looked much better in drag than me, Poseidon. I had a great night one Halloween in 73 thinking I was a perfect Bette Davis and the one real drag performer in Pittsburgh back then said I was a great June Allyson! I thought that wasn't too bad so I had fun. Till I saw the pictures of me and could see what a non pretty girl I was! I was a little disappointed but it wasn't long till I was in my 3" platforms and no eyebrows and was doing the David Bowie look. It was a much better fit and I've been a super fan ever since.

BrianB BrianBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04971543273687192896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-26699254564540993932019-06-19T16:30:46.826-04:002019-06-19T16:30:46.826-04:00Don't forget my favorite cross-dressing sit-co...Don't forget my favorite cross-dressing sit-com ever, Ask Harriet!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/10379538@N05/27012175075/Alan Plessingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13988563161789256648noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-26250430114103029472017-01-04T13:47:56.774-05:002017-01-04T13:47:56.774-05:00Almost all Hollywood movies, the success of actors...Almost all Hollywood movies, the success of actors in the character role Drags, Crossdressers or Transsexuals are also due to the talent of many makeup artists and costumers!Lilith Lin CDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09055483463823737413noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-53469772332947208322015-07-30T21:19:00.635-04:002015-07-30T21:19:00.635-04:00Hey, Roberta. You know, I'd completely forgotten about Jenner being in this post from nearly three years ago!! I guess I was ahead of the curve on this!!! I also completely forgot that I'd ever included that shot of me at the end as well. Wow..... But I still think I was cuter than some of these other dogs! The pix of Olivier and More is hilarious. (I'm reminded how stern More is in A Night to Remember regarding the male Titanic passengers posing as women to get into the lifeboats! If they could only see him here!)

The real reason for my comment though is the now priceless shot of then-Bruce Jenner in drag with Bob Hope and Merlin Olson. I am surprised that no one has dug it up recently due to the overwhelming attention given to Caitlyn Jenner. You were way ahead of history!

Thanks again for this wonderful blog. I have never seen it, but I recall it getting a lot of press when I was a kid (as did The Brady Bunch's Robert Reed's turn as a transsexual on Medical Center!)Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-30999006311665780182012-09-14T21:06:49.147-04:002012-09-14T21:06:49.147-04:00I had almost forgotten about The Ugliest Girl in T...I had almost forgotten about The Ugliest Girl in Town! It was a dumb show but my family used to watch it for the brief time it was on, being a very young kid at the time I remember thinking it was hysterical. I could be wrong but I think it ran either just before or just after one of Monte Markham's two failed comedies, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town or The Second Hundred Years, both of which I watched faithfully since he along with Bill Bixby was one of my earliest crushes.
I remember John Davidson playing a murderous female impersonator on the Streets of San Francisco and being in drag several times in the show. It got a lot of coverage at the time as a chance for him to stretch his cream cheese image. He was okay I suppose although I've never been a fan of anything he's done except perhaps The Girl With Something Extra and that's only because of my enormous love for Sally Field.joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-71816992317134994242012-09-14T07:43:08.743-04:002012-09-14T07:43:08.743-04:00Thanks, Michael!
