So many of the movies I profile have remained unseen for many readers. (And it was a pretty strong PSA against smoking, especially in the home!) But, ya know, wild as that is, scripted drama is rarely more horrible than plain old real life. Just recently, a mother near me took her children to a park late at night to abandon them there. She only wound up leaving one, but as he clung to the car's door handle while she sped away, he was dragged to death. Later she dumped his body in the river. All because her boyfriend didn't want her to have any children around...! Truth is most always more heinous than any fiction.<br /><br />https://www.journal-news.com/crime/middletown-mother-said-boyfriend-pressured-her-to-abandon-kids-before-6-year-old-son-was-killed/ZCIFJX3YQNB67ABSTWSFKNML2Y/Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-1358858620804909592021-03-15T18:39:08.122-04:002021-03-15T18:39:08.122-04:00That "fire" was a human baby ablaze! So of course, mornings/afternoons included "Hollywood Squares," "Match Game," etc. (Man, I thought Gene Rayburn could use some BRACES--his overbite was worse than mine!) All with my tired grandma sitting back on the couch around 2 pm, removing her square heeled shoes and little filmy "footies" (rank!) and lighting up one of the filterless Camels she chainsmoked in a day. (This played havoc w/ me, who was born w/ lung problems, but it's ALL WE KNEW THEN) Bert Convy, HELLO! Dick Gautier, you betcha! And of course my faves, Paul Lynde & Charles Nelson Reilly. JoAnn Worley was my go-to heroine, and I had my grandma fix my hair like hers! And as for the Kentucky connection of Chuck Woolery--I didn't know! (He reminded me more of a chunky Jim Stafford, actually.) I remember when George Clooney got popular and I would tell folks that, as a wee lass, I watched his dad, the luscious NICK CLOONEY, on WKRC (gave me a taste for the salt-and-pepper haired sweeties)in Cincinnati. Another Kentucky hunk!<br />AJhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12028011532538247264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-60370385146330056412011-05-03T07:43:31.582-04:002011-05-03T07:43:31.582-04:00Well, I can't say I "know," but I su...Well, I can't say I "know," but I suspect it's that the stringent Production Code was starting to wobble and filmmakers were putting more and more adult or previously disallowed content into their movies while still having all the tools of the studio (like top cineatographers, costumers, musicians, etc...) at their disposal, so you wind up with sort of glossy trash (and I dont' mean that as an insult!!) Whereas a few years later, when practically anything went onscreen, the money wasn't always there to make it look the way films did previously. There's also something to be said about creatively suggesting something rather than just showing it. The Code made writers, actors and directors strive hard to show what they really weren't supposed to. It's kind of neat to examine in retrospect.Poseidon3https://www.blogger.com/profile/10465785002285422594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-85538566238742198432011-05-02T17:11:54.768-04:002011-05-02T17:11:54.768-04:00You would probably know but there seems to be some...You would probably know but there seems to be something unique about many movies between about 1958 and 1964. Possibly the end of the staid 50's and before the swinging 60's took over; I wonder.puggerpetehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00815919335685887482noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-43282443780709559642011-04-29T14:05:36.188-04:002011-04-29T14:05:36.188-04:00I saw this picture at the drive-in in my straighte...I saw this picture at the drive-in in my straighter days!Labuanbajohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02868669229565228124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4006108502645191096.post-78275535534953674672011-04-28T12:40:46.502-04:002011-04-28T12:40:46.502-04:00Steve, I fixed it!
